FIRST RESPONDER TAX
At ʻOhana Kai Tax and First Responder Tax, we believe that family and service always come first.
Our owner, Conner Armstrong, was raised in beautiful Ventura, California, alongside his older siblings, Adam and Tatiana. He grew up with the example of his parents, Adam and Kim, who have been married for over 37 years. Conner’s father, originally from Hawaii, served as a law enforcement officer before retiring and opening the family-run ʻOhana Kai Surf Shop in Ventura.
The name ʻOhana Kai means “Ocean Family”- a reflection of Conner's father, Adam's Hawaiian roots and the values of unity, loyalty, and service that continue to guide our firm today. Much of Conner’s extended family still lives in Hawaii, and our goal is to keep those traditions alive and close to our heart here in California.
When it came time to name the firm, Conner chose ʻOhana Kai Tax as a way to honor his family’s surf shop and carry forward the legacy his parents built. To us, ʻOhana Kai is more than a name or a logo - it represents our deep love for the ocean, our respect for service, and the strength of family bonds.
Conner also served nearly a decade in law enforcement, working alongside his brother and following in the footsteps of their father. This dedication to service inspired the creation of First Responder Tax - a way to honor and support the men and women who protect and serve our communities every day.

Our owner, Conner Armstrong, was born and raised in Ventura. After attending Ventura High School and graduating from the prestigious Ivy League Institution, Cornell University, Conner turned down multiple offers from Fortune 500 companies to return home and serve his community with his brother. He spent nearly a decade with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), ultimately becoming a detective in the Intelligence Unit, specializing in organized crime and Human Trafficking. He was also a member of a Ventura County FBI Task Force and served as the coordinator of the Ventura County Human Trafficking Task Force, where his dedication earned him the distinguished Investigator of the Year award for the entire county.
Following a line-of-duty injury, Conner transitioned to a new career - but kept his mission of service intact. Armed with a Masters in Business Administration in Management (MBA) and a lifelong passion for finance, Conner became an Enrolled Agent (EA), the highest credential awarded by the IRS. This designation gives him the authority to represent taxpayers in all matters before the IRS.
Today, Conner applies the same integrity, analytical skills, and strategic thinking that made him a standout investigator to the world of taxation. Whether you are an individual filer, a small business owner, or facing complex IRS issues, Conner and his team are here to simplify the process and maximize your financial outcomes.
When Conner isn’t nerding out on tax laws or crafting strategies to save clients money, he’s enjoying life with his beautiful wife, Gabriela (Gabs), and their 1-year-old son, Kaiea. As a family, they love taking walks, spending time at the beach, jumping into any body of water they can find, and traveling to new places in search of great food and new adventures.
